Prose Poem “Cause and Effect”
The young boy of Heaven deeply contemplates the cause and effect of why the Buddha is the Buddha.
Bodhisattvas fear the cause, sentient beings fear the effect.
For the Bodhisattvas, the cause and effect are rooted in the eternal true heart. Reciting the Buddha’s name is the cause, becoming a Buddha is the effect.
Reciting the Buddha’s name calls forth the true nature within, each thought a cause, eternal and unbroken.
Becoming a Buddha is the effect of awakening, transcending time and space, merging with the universe’s truths and compassion, complete and flawless.
This cause and effect is an eternal contract of the soul, where cause and effect are intertwined, calm and profound.
For sentient beings, cause and effect are bound by karmic actions, the cycle of samsara.
The cause for sentient beings is lost thoughts, which plant countless karmic seeds, resulting in suffering and endless reincarnation.
The effect is suffering and entanglement, where cause and effect bind the body and mind, and samsara continues unceasingly.
This cause and effect is not true; it is a reflection of deluded thoughts, and the karmic net binds the soul in ignorance.
The former is the true cause and effect of the heart, while the latter is the deluded cause and effect.
The true cause of the heart, as shown by the Buddha, is pure and unobstructed, with constant light illuminating all things.
The deluded cause binds sentient beings, caught in ignorance, producing endless suffering and continuing the cycle of rebirth.
Cause and effect are not external; they are created by the mind.
When the mind returns to the true, cause and effect can be transcended.
With one awakening thought, cause and effect become the pure land.
Thus, cause and effect merge as one.
