Five Exclamations of Life
A Poetic Reflection on the Past and Present
Ascending the lofty Northern Mang Mountain, Ah!
Turning back to gaze upon the imperial capital, Ah!
How grand, how towering, those mighty palaces, Ah!
Yet all built upon the sweat and toil of the people, Ah!
The suffering of humanity stretches boundless, unending, Ah!
Once, in the time of Emperor Zhang of Han,
the scholar Liang Hong passed through Luoyang.
He climbed the North Mang Mountain,
his eyes catching the splendor of imperial grandeur,
yet his heart weighed down by the endless hardship of the people.
Moved by the contrast of wealth and suffering,
he penned this poem, breathing out his sorrow— Ah!
Now, millennia have passed.
I, the humble child of the cosmos,
look inward and outward,
observing the grand expanse of the AI-driven 21st century.
And yet, what has changed?
The sky-scraping towers of glass and steel, Ah!
Are they not the palaces of today?
The endless streams of data and digital wealth, Ah!
Do they not still rest upon unseen hands and weary minds?
The ceaseless pursuit of progress and prosperity, Ah!
Does it not deepen the rifts of labor and life?
Human suffering, unbound by time, Ah!
Echoes the same lament sung by Liang Hong.
Standing atop the mountain of reflection,
I exclaim once more: Ah!
For the past, for the present, for the unchanging cycles of life.
May humanity pause to hear this sigh,
this age-old call to remember the toil, the pain,
and the shared longing for something better.
And so, with five unbroken cries,
I bow to history and awaken to now:
Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!
