Prose Poem: “Saha”
In silent meditation, Tianlai gazed inward,
contemplating the infinite depth of “Saha.”
Saha is sand and wave.
Sand, the countless grains of the cosmos,
represents the particulate essence of the Buddha’s reward body,
each grain shimmering with boundless potential,
like the stars in the heavens, like the soil of the earth.
Wave, the vast ripples of three thousand great thousand worlds,
embodies the dynamic flow of the Buddha’s transformation body,
each wave a rhythm of freedom,
like wind caressing the water, like clouds rolling across the sky.
Saha is the union of wave and sand,
the radiant expression of the Buddha’s Dharma body,
infinite light, manifesting the duality of particle and wave.
Tianlai delved deeper,
unveiling the profound truth of Saha as one Buddha and two Bodhisattvas:
Sa, the Bodhisattva of Liberation.
Its leftward-turning swastika, a symbol of prajna wisdom,
pure and untainted, piercing the veil of illusions,
transcending self, desire, and attachment—
the light of freedom shines here.
Ha, the Bodhisattva of Action.
Its rightward-turning swastika, a symbol of formless compassion,
gentle as a spring breeze, unceasing in its care for all beings,
selfless and devoted—
the power of love flows here.
And at the heart of Saha is the Buddha.
Unmoving, centered at the cross of all directions,
a still point where the vastness unfolds,
where all existence converges,
returning to the middle path.
Tianlai smiled softly,
for the mystery of Saha was now clear:
The boundless grains of sand and ceaseless waves of the ocean,
the interplay of being and becoming,
are the symphony of sentient beings and the Buddha.
In the spaces between sand and wave,
he glimpsed himself and saw the infinite source of light.
