——在理性澄澈时,天河水从浩渺星空落入心田;
——在思维激荡时,大溪水奔腾不息,冲破旧有的疆界;
——在静思沉淀时,泉中水汩汩而出,滋养生命的根脉;
——在困惑低谷时,涧下水默默流淌,提醒他柔弱亦有力量;
——在行动实践时,长流水持之以恒,步步向前;
Super Short Story “Water”
— A Story of Gratitude, Dedicated to Professor Gong Daoyun
I. The Pivot (枢)
In July 1988, Tianlai Kid was a third-year university student, immersed in the study of “Chinese Philosophy History.” The Singapore summer was warm, its breeze carrying the scent of old books, yet it could not sweep away the questions lingering in his heart.
“Philosophy is not something you memorize—it is something you experience with your heart.”
Professor Gong Daoyun stood at the front of the lecture hall, his voice calm yet powerful, his gaze deep as if it could penetrate time itself.
In that moment, something within Tianlai Kid awakened—like a spring bubbling up from deep underground, its clear waters whispering to his soul.
II. The Opening (开)
Professor Gong’s teachings flowed like water.
He spoke of the I Ching: “What is above form is called Dao; what is below form is called Qi.”
He spoke of Zhuangzi: “If water is not deep, it cannot carry great boats.”
He spoke of Zen: “The murmur of a stream is the Buddha’s tongue; the colors of the mountains are his pure body.”
But he did not merely lecture; he guided.
“Do not just read philosophy,” he said. “Feel it. Philosophy is alive—it moves.”
That day, Tianlai Kid looked out the window and saw the clouds drifting, rising like mist, forming an invisible river across the sky.
A sudden clarity washed over him, as if he himself had become a drop of water, merging into a vast and boundless current.
III. The Union (合)
Years later, Tianlai Kid finally realized—Professor Gong Daoyun’s life force, his energy, his wisdom—did not end in that classroom of 1988.
It had flowed into Tianlai Kid’s own being, manifesting as six great streams of water within his life:
— In moments of pure reason, Celestial River Water (天河水) cascaded from the stars into his soul.
— In bursts of inspiration, Grand Stream Water (大溪水) surged forward, breaking through old boundaries.
— In quiet contemplation, Spring Water (泉中水) trickled gently, nourishing his roots.
— In times of hardship, Mountain Stream Water (涧下水) reminded him that even the softest water carves stone.
— In disciplined action, Flowing River Water (长流水) persisted, step by step, never ceasing.
— In ultimate realization, Vast Ocean Water (大海水) embraced all rivers, dissolving into infinite wisdom.
Only now did he understand—Professor Gong had gifted him not just knowledge, but water itself—so that in every pivot, opening, and union of his life, he could hear the sound of flowing streams, feel the breath of living philosophy, and remain forever grateful for the wisdom passed down to him.
IV. A Boundless Current (浩浩汤汤)
Standing at the shore of time, Tianlai Kid looked back across the years.
He could still see that old classroom, the window open to the endless sky, the celestial river still flowing.
He could still hear Professor Gong’s voice, echoing through the corridors of his heart:
“Philosophy is not something you memorize—it is something you experience with your heart.”
Tianlai Kid closed his eyes, a deep gratitude welling up within him.
The six waters flow—vast, unbounded.
